Perseverance
Perseverance is about striving ahead even in the face of difficulty. Kids high in this strength stick with the work even when it gets hard. This can look at struggling through a new piano piece, studying for a test, or trying hard to tie ones shoes. Perseverance takes effort and time and can help build skills, confidence and courage.
These books celebrate and explore perseverance, along with related topics such as grit, patience, goal-setting and sacrifice.
This gentle and encouraging read gets to the heart of growth mindset. Through hard work and effort, we can grow our abilities and skills, and do hard things. There are many picture books that reinforce these ideas, but the sweet illustrations depicting patience, faith and learning made this a book my kids reached for themselves.

The Power of Yet
This is a light story about a determined younger sister seeking to build an amazing sandcastle only to be foiled by the crashing waves repeatedly. Jules is determined and perseveres, building her sandcastle again and again to no avail. This one got us talking about attitude, determination, acceptance and when to give up. The glossy illustrations were also funny and charming, and Jules has a strong spirit.
